TM1 Fanboy is an independent publication about the history of enterprise decision-making. Starting with TM1, it traces how spreadsheets, OLAP, enterprise planning, business intelligence, and artificial intelligence have shaped the way organizations plan and decide. It uses that history to help finance leaders recognize recurring patterns in technology and transformation: new capabilities arrive, while questions of trust, ownership, adoption, and judgment remain.
Christoph Hein is a historian of enterprise decision-making, public speaker, and author of TM1 Fanboy. He studied modern history, business administration, and political science at Philipps-Universität Marburg, including an ERASMUS semester at Turun yliopisto in Finland. For more than fifteen years, he has worked with business intelligence, TM1, IBM Planning Analytics, enterprise planning, financial performance management, data management, and finance technology, and he has taught controlling, FP&A, and IT management at university level for more than ten years. He is also Country Manager for Intito in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. His work combines historical attention to sources and context with practical experience of planning inside organizations and a teacher’s concern for clarity.
The name TM1 Fanboy began in 2020 with Christoph’s writing about TM1 on LinkedIn. It is playful, but reflects a sustained interest in TM1 as a lens on four decades of enterprise planning and decision technology.
